Down Economy Spurs Activity in New Product World
New products are being invented by consumers, for consumers in an effort to make money and save money
In today’s economic times, consumers and their habits are being watched with intensely close eye – what are they buying, how are they spending, etc. But Wizard Industries, a manufacturing and marketing company for innovative products designed by amateur inventors, is seeing an interesting shift in lieu of the economic times: more products.
Consumers are going into business for themselves by inventing new products that are designed to save the consumer money. A two-fold concept: the consumer is seeking to make money in a economy that has left many jobless by creating products that will ultimately help the consumer save money and time.
“Handymen are inventing tools that are efficient for other handymen, as well as homeowners that are trying to save money by not hiring a professional. New gardening products are being created as more consumers are conscious of the environment and growing their own food due to high grocery store prices,” said Billy Carmen, CEO of Wizard Industries. “We thought the recession would affect the new product industry in a negative way, but instead, we’ve seen quite the opposite. More and more inventors are coming forward to start their own business.”
Despite the economic downturn and the problems small business owners face, more people than ever are seeking to take their career into their own hands. And with the advent of things like the virtual office and other technological wizardry, the option of creating and marketing a new product is more attainable than ever.
According to Carmen, retailers and other industries are becoming reliant on small businesses and their innovations. The loss of future innovators could have a profound effect on other industries, Carmen said.

Wizard Industries was ranked by MSN Money's StartupNation Home-Based 100 as #4 and Carmen's company manufactures and distributes hundreds of products. In addition, it uses a patented product-marketing system called SampleRewards that powers the company's product, subject and genre specific Web sites. The Web sites provide a platform to bring awareness to new inventions and products to the news media, retailers and consumers. In addition, the system provides education and resources for new-product inventors and manufacturers. The company also produces a new product resource magazine called "The Product News Journal."
