The Lumber Wizard 5 Laser Line is a powerful precision hand held metal detector designed specifically for woodworkers who use recycled wood. The Lumber Wizard 4 Laser Line provides powerful precise detection of small metal objects which can be buried inside of used, and new lumber. Designed for use in noisy work shops. Includes a bright yet safe laser line generator to alert user when metal is detected by projecting a red laser line on to material scanned when metal is detected.
Dimensions: Length 15 in., Width 3-1/8 in., Height 1-1/8 in. Weight: 13 oz.
Types of Metal Detected: Responds equally well to all types of metal, steel, stainless steel, zinc, magnesium, and aluminum. Locates, nails, screws, staples, tacks, bulletts, wire and other small metal objects that can destroy or damage planer, jointer and saw blades.
Electronics: Unit operates with an automatic tuning transmit/receive circuit. Provides precision detection pattern which helps prevent false alarms from rebar in floors and other surrounding metal. Laser line generator activates upon detection of metal.
Operating Frequency: 13 kHz / 6,600 Hz.
Power Requirements: One nine volt battery; standard alkaline, Typical battery life is eighty hours.
Switch: On / Off and stay on switch.
Laser Switch: On / Off and stay on switch.
Alarm Indicators: Piezo tone beeper and LED RED light indicator are used to indicate the presence of metal.
Low Battery Indication: When battery drops down to 6.0 volts the unit operates with a warble tone and flashing light instead of the normal steady tone and light indicating a low battery. The unit will operate properly as the battery drops well below 5 volts. Once below 3 volts units will emit constant beep tone until unit shuts off.
The detectors' sensitivity is fully adjustable through an access hole in the handle to mis-adjustments while providing convenient and easy use.
A note about metal detectors and tuning:
Tuning is important as metal detectors are sensitive to ground balance (the mineralization content in the soil around us all) and the amount of humidity in the air.
Tuning allows the detector coil to concentrate on high-density metallic materials instead of the metals in the earth. Keeping the tuning precise and doing it often helps to find more small metal pieces in wood.
The difference in the Lumber Wizard vs other types of wands is the ability to better control detection strength through precise manual tuning. Other metal detectors with autotune features do not detect as accurately since they can't be tuned to a very specific level. Those types are typically used for security and they are commonly used to detect huge metal objects such as weapons. The Lumber Wizard is made to help detect wire, nails, screws, and small pieces of metal. Thus the importance of tuning often. Think of it as sharpening a blade!
A new fully charged 9-Volt battery commonly lasts for weeks of daily use. Indications of a low 9-volt battery voltage are inconsistent detection or flashing laser. Always Use A New 9-Volt Battery. A fresh fully charged battery provides the most detection strength and uses time. A partially charged battery can cause false readings, less detection depth, and inconsistent laser. A fresh, fully charged 9-volt battery provides more than ample use time. A low battery can cost you blades, material, and lost time......
